Biography

Dr. Khabat Khosravi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Watershed Management. He began his higher education in 2006 by enrolling in the Bachelor of Science program in Rangeland and Watershed Engineering at the Urmia University. After completing his bachelor's degree, he was admitted to the Master of Science program in Watershed Engineering at the Sari University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources in 2010. He earned his M.Sc. degree in September 2012 after successfully defending his thesis entitled “Groundwater Vulnerability Assessment in the Qorveh–Dehgolan Plain Using the DRASTIC Model”, under the supervision of Prof. Mahmoud Habibnejad.

In the same year, Dr. Khosravi continued his academic career by entering the Ph.D. program in Watershed Engineering (Water Resources Management) at Sari University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. He completed his doctoral studies in 2017, defending his dissertation titled “Experimental Investigation of the Effects of Flow Types on Sediment Transport and Bed Morphology Changes.” His Ph.D. research was supervised by Prof. Mahmoud Habibnejad and Prof. Kaka Shahedi, with advisory support from Prof. Amir Houshang Nazemivand Chegini from Civil Engineering Department at the University of Guilan.

Between 2021 and 2023, Dr. Khosravi conducted his first postdoctoral research fellowship at Florida International University-FIU (USA) under the supervision of Professor Assefa M. Melesse. He subsequently completed a second postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Canada, under the guidance of Professor Aitazaz A. Farooque. In September 2024, Dr. Khosravi joined Razi University.

Dr. Khosravi has been ranked among the world’s top 2% of most-cited scientists according to Stanford University reports since 2021. In addition to his research activities, he serves as an Associate Editor for several leading international journals, including Natural Hazards, Acta Geophysica, and Earth Science Informatics, all published by Springer.

Research Interests

• Watershed hydrology and water resources management
• Flood modeling and forecasting
• River engineering and sediment transport processes
• Application of machine learning, remote sensing, and GIS in modeling water resources and natural hazards (e.g., floods, land subsidence, and landslides)
• Application of PIV and PTV techniques in river engineering
• Groundwater vulnerability assessment
